Kenneth M. Cummins, 79, of Leavenworth, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008, at his home.


Kenneth M. Cummins, 79, of Leavenworth, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008, at his home.

He was born March 16, 1929, in Leavenworth, to Vernon and Edith (Martin) Cummins. Kenneth married Margueritte Phyllis Vargas on Aug. 19, 1977, in Platte City, Mo.

Mr. Cummins was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; two brothers; and one grandson, William Mulvihill.

Kenneth worked at the Gould National Battery Factory for 32 years, retiring in 1989.

He played lead guitar with several local bands and earned the name “Kenny Guitar.” Kenneth also loved spending time with children, family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Margueritte Phyllis (Vargas) Cummins of the home; his sons, Joseph Cummins and Charles Raney Jr., both of Leavenworth; his daughter, Rebecca Ebbe of Leavenworth; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; his sisters, Shirley Shirley of Smith, Ala., and Dorothy Dykes of Leavenworth; his brothers, the Rev. William Cummins of Sheridan, Wyo., and Clarence Cummins of Leavenworth.

Kenneth had been failing in health for several months.

He passed away at home while surrounded by his wife and loved ones. He will be cremated.
