    To the editor:
Help stop the bleeding. Vote “no” on the upcoming bond issue for the Tonganoxie School District 464 on April 5.
My money tree is dying, being sapped by higher taxes, higher gasoline prices, higher food prices, insurance and utility costs. My taxes have tripled on my house since I’ve lived here.
There has been no cost-of-living raise from Social Security for the last two years. Being retired and on a fixed income, I don’t know where any more tax money can come from.
How could the Tonganoxie school board even think of trying to pass a bond issue with the economy that’s in the shape it’s in? People are out of work. Homes are being foreclosed on. People who have jobs sometimes have trouble getting by on what they make. They, like most people on Social Security, don’t have the extra tax money either.
If I hadn’t seen the sign erected by the school board, I wouldn’t have known about the election, nor do I know where to vote.
And yes, I do live in the Tonganoxie school district and again I ask, stop the bleeding. Vote “no.”
