    David Edward McFarland, 68, Leavenworth, Kan., slipped away to be with the Lord very unexpectedly July 22, 2012. David the son of Maurice & Yvonne (Longpre) McFarland was born January 20, 1944 in Barre, Vt. He attended local schools in Vermont. After finishing high school he enlisted in the U.S. Army retiring after 22 years of military service in various parts of the United States and overseas. During the latter part of his military career he and “Vicki” were assigned to Ft. Leavenworth, and decided they liked the mid-West and settled here in Leavenworth.
    Upon retirement from the Army he went to work for the City of Bonner Springs, Kan. working in the Maintenance Department. David was an avid bowler, and subsequently  met his wife “Vicki” while both were bowling in the same facility but on different teams. He enjoyed weekly bowling with his friends. David married Victoria “Vicki” J. (Wray) McFarland on April 18, 1970 in Milford, CT., they celebrated their 42nd anniversary in April of this year. He is survived by his wife Victoria, two daughters; Krissy (Adam) Kearney, Topeka, Kelly McFarland, Leavenworth; a son William J. (Brandie) McFarland, Colorado Springs, Colo; two sisters Doris Berke and Helena Pramschuefer, Stratford, CT; two brothers John (Kay) McFarland, San Antonio, TX., and Daniel (Linda) McFarland, Milford, CT; ten grandchildren, Sara & Jacob McFarland; Rebecca, William & David McFarland; Nicolas Manning; Danielle Boldra; Victoria & Elizabeth Kearney and Elizabeth Reynolds, all whom reside in Kan., as well as many loving nieces, nephews and cousins from the across the United States. He was preceded in death by a son David E . McFarland, Jr., and three brothers Maurice, Joseph and Ronald McFarland.
    David was a member of St. Casimir Catholic Church. He was a sober member of AA for 34 years.

    The funeral mass will be at 11 a.m., Friday July 27, 2012, at St. Casimir Catholic Church, Leavenworth. Internment will follow in the Leavenworth National Cemetery at 12:30 p.m. Visitation will be Thursday, July 26, 2012 from 5:30 until 8 p.m. at the Belden-Larkin Funeral Home (707 S. 6th St.) The Rosary will be recited at 5:30.
