Champs and runner-ups, Easton Outlaws, will compete in this week’s Legion State AAA Tournament.
A single statistic defined this year’s American Legion AAA Zone 1 Tournament.
Playing in three games over three days, the LV Diamond Jaxx baseball team pounded out 46 runs. It was that high-powered offense, which averaged just above 15 scores a contest, that ultimately led to a championship this past weekend.
The Jaxx took down the Easton Outlaws 15-0 on Saturday to claim the zone title. The accomplishment not only punctuated a Legion season that included nearly 30 wins, but also delivered the squad a ticket to this week’s American Legion Kansas AAA State Tournament.
The Jaxx will open up play versus Pittsburg at 5 p.m. Wednesday in Manhattan.
And joining the Leavenworth team will be another local squad. Though Easton lost the zone championship Saturday, the club was notified soon after it had also qualified for the state competition.
The Outlaws will play around 8 p.m. on Wednesday against the host squad Manhattan.
Helping to determine that selection was Easton’s semifinal win on Saturday against Geiger Ready-Mix.
The Outlaws dispatched Geiger 22-11 to make the final against the Jaxx, giving the team the inside track to the second representative spot.
