With the completion of the Kansas AAA State Tournament, the end of yet another American Legion baseball season in Leavenworth has came and went.
Two area teams, the LV Diamond Jaxx and Easton Outlaws, earned the right to participate in the state-wide competition, which was held Aug. 1-5 in Manhattan.
However, by day three, both squads had been eliminated.
In its opening tournament game, the Diamond Jaxx faced Pittsburg and lost 17-1. Following that contest, the Outlaws were downed by Manhattan 20-1. The result squared the two area teams against each other in the loser’s bracket, where a 14-6 victory by the Diamond Jaxx ousted Easton for good.
The victory was short lived, however, as the Jaxx fell 16-0 to Newton the proceeding day, officially putting the local 2012 American Legion baseball season in the books.
Hays went on to win the tournament Sunday with a 9-5 victory over Pittsburg.
