"I wanted to be able to influence lives and build a program for the community to be proud of."
Name: Julie Slater
Coaching position: Head coach of Lansing volleyball
Years as coach: 27
Why did you get into coaching? Coaching is an extension of playing. I have such a strong love and passion for volleyball and other sports. I wanted to be able to influence lives and build a program for the community to be proud of.
What are your best memories of coaching so far? I have so many great memories, but of course the best has to be winning the state championship in 2002.
What advice do you have for future coaches? Our youth really need good role models even more today than ever. Just understand the power that you have with kids and that you have the power to make an athlete’s life miserable or joyous.
