    Richard Leo Chmidling, Jr., 52, passed away August 3, 2012, at Country Care living facility in Easton, Kan. after a courageous battle with cancer.
    Rick was born October 9, 1959, in Nortonville, Kan. to Richard and Doris (Wilcox) Chmidling. They moved to Leavenworth in 1966. Rick graduated from Pleasant Ridge High School in 1977 and began his career in construction working for his father, Richard. He would later work for American Roofing as well as being self-employed.
    He was an avid hunter and fisherman who enjoyed playing pool, trap shooting, being outdoors and working with his hands.
    Rick was preceded in death by his dad Richard L. Chmidling, Sr., his mother Doris May (Wilcox) Harvey, and a brother, Thomas John Chmidling. He is survived by his stepmother, Eileen Chmidling, three brothers, Tim, Robert (Marcelle) and Ed (Traci), two sisters, Debbie Chmidling and Darlene Dean, all of Leavenworth, one step brother, Terry Booker, Leavenworth, two step sisters, Michelle Booker, Leavenworth and Kathi Booker, Lansing, numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins, and his dear friend Toni Shade and her daughter, Markita Worley.
    Rick will be laid to rest at St. Joseph Cemetery in Nortonville, Kan. at 10 a.m., August 11, 2012.
    Memorials can be made to Odyssey Hospice of Overland Park KS or Country Care, Inc of Easton, Kan. and may be left in care of the O’Trimble Funeral Home. Words of comfort for the family may be left at www.beckerdyer.com
