  • Here is another dose of musings. These are some really exciting times in the recreation area.
We had some great softball games this past week. We are very close to having our divisions established for next season in the women’s league.
Also, it has become very apparent the teams that need to be moved into different divisions on the men’s side for next season. We have two to three weeks remaining in our summer season depending on the league/division.
Don’t forget the Psychotic Summer Blast. This is a fundraiser, male and coed softball tournament in Lawrence. The entry fee is $125 per team. For additional information, contact either Wes Warren at 785-331-8677 or Jordan Glenn at 913-416-3106.

The First City Home Run Derby is beginning to draw more interest as it draws near. It could be a very heated battle on Aug. 25. Contact us at the Leavenworth Parks and Recreation department at 913-651-2203 to register.
The discussion has already begun about hosting a home run derby for the coed season — players are even arguing already over who is partnering up in that competition.
As our summer season is winding down, our fall season is preparing to kick into full gear. Due to the demand for coed softball, we have extended our registration one more week to allow teams to complete their rosters.
We already have more individuals signed up than we did last fall. Our season will begin after Labor Day weekend to allow everyone to rest up for a full season.

Due to a large influx of requests for a wooden bat league, we are going to experiment with the concept this fall. We will only accept eight teams. We will play on Friday nights.  We will have an eight game season beginning Sept. 7. We will play the games at Cody Park.
The City of Leavenworth Parks and Recreation will supply the wooden bats for the games — these will be the only bats permitted. We will provide bats from 31-34 inches for each team at the games.
The teams will be required to provide their own softballs — they must be in compliance with the city of Leavenworth coed softball rules. ASA rules will be used in addition to the local city of Leavenworth rules.
This will be an all-comers league. Men and women are encouraged to play — understand that this is not a coed league. A player must be 18 years of age and their high school class must have graduated. Team entry fee will be $175.
Remember also, we have adult coed softball registration going on as well. The deadline for the registration is Aug. 19.
