We start with congratulations to coach April Norberto and the McCann Plumbing softball team.

We start with congratulations to coach April Norberto and the McCann Plumbing softball team.

They are the undefeated women’s adult softball league champ. Last Tuesday, they completed a perfect 12-0 season — congrats again.

We had a three-way tie for second within the division with identical 9-3 records for Cohorst Enterprises, Mitchell General Contractor and Wenzl Construction. I want to thank the women of Wenzl for driving in from Atchison to participate this season — you were a great addition to our league.

The women’s divisions are very clear cut for next season. It was a great 2012 season — thanks ladies for participating.

Division I will consist of — Citizens Savings and Loan, Cohorst Enterprises, McCann Plumbing, Mitchell General Contractor, Ten Penny and Wenzl Construction.

Division II will be — Bombshell Betty’s, Bone Crushers, Great Western, RM Painting and Rosie’s Riveters.

The men’s division II and division III are close to wrapping up their season. In Division III, the championship will come down to the final game next Tuesday, a battle between Great Western and Tom’s Country Stampede.

Division III, already won by Twisted Softball, will conclude this Friday. What an awesome ending to a grand season.

The men’s division I league still has four dates remaining with three teams — All Slabbed Up, Butler Muffler, and Oak Leaf Pub Hitmen — battling for the league championship. Good luck to all.

Adult coed softball will begin Sept. 10.  We have ended up with 14 teams, an increase from last year. Division I, which has six teams, will play on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Division II will play on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This will be exciting and fun to watch for anyone looking for something to do some evening. I believe the divisions are pretty equally divided.

We hosted an umpire meeting this past weekend and it was great to see all of the “new blood” that we had attend the meeting. Professionalism was the primary topic discussed throughout the meeting.

I am anxious to watch these individuals working on our local fields. Good luck to all of our newbies.

We are currently taking team registration for our Varsity Sports’ wooden bat league. I am very excited to announce that Varsity Sports has taken on the sponsorship of our new wooden bat league.

A huge shout out to Varsity Sports of Kansas City, Kan., for undertaking this sponsorship.

This league will be played on Friday nights at Cody Park. We are only accepting eight teams. This should be a blast.

Lastly, remember the First City Home Run Derby will be held at Cody Park on Aug. 25 beginning at 10 a.m. Individuals may sign-up the day of the event.

We have some truly awesome sponsors —  Genesis Health Club (1 month free membership); Mr. Goodcents ($25 gift certificate); Varsity Sports ($25 gift certificate) and Pfrimmer Chiropratic (one 30-minute massage).

The five winners in each division — three men’s divisions and two women’s divisions will each receive the winner’s prizes. The overall men’s and women’s winners will receive a free pass from the City of Leavenworth Parks and Recreation to the Bobby Watson Jazz concert.
