It was a rough start to the season for the Immaculata girls’ tennis team Monday.
In it’s opening match of 2012, the Lady Raiders hosted Mill Valley and went 0-6 in singles play and 0-3 in doubles action.
“While enthusiasm and positive energy were a good element of our girls play, our inexperience across the team resulted in more losses than wins today,” Imac coach Manuel Hernandez said. “We have a young team and our learning curve is steep. Some of the girls are having to learn by immersion and being placed in the tough varsity positions, but I am confident they’ll come through it all much better players before the year is through.”
Results from singles play included Immaculata’s No. 1 Olivia Wilson losing 7-6 (7-5), No. 2 Abby Meirose falling 7-0 and No. 3 Liz Lee dropping a 7-2 result. In the No. 4 singles match, Olivia Theus was beat 7-2, as was No. 5 Hannah Wilson, and No. 6 Priscilla Hernandez lost 7-0.
In doubles, all three Imac pairings — Wilson/Theus, Meirose/Lee and Hernandez/Nine, were beat 7-1.
“The team had some good effort throughout the day but we still have some basics to continue to improve upon if we are going to have a better showing in the future,” Hernandez stated.
The Lady Raiders will look to bounce back next Tuesday when it hosts Lansing at 3:30 p.m.
