LEAVENWORTH — Little things added up to create big problems for the Immaculata Raiders Friday.

Trying to improve its record to 2-0, the Raiders hosted Onaga, and had issues from the start. Following a 14-point first quarter, the Buffalos put up points in every period to beat Imac 49-14.

“They clogged up the middle quite a bit and we couldn’t get anything going inside offensively,” Immaculata coach Sean Sachen said. “Then they just started keying in on Drew outside. We couldn’t make any stops defensively either. They drove the ball up and down the field and then just punched it in.”

Immaculata received the opening kick to begin the game, yet had to punt after a quick three-and-out series. Onaga then methodically and bluntly ran the ball through the Raiders to score its first touchdown of the night at 6:35 in the first quarter.

The next Imac possession resulted in a fumble at midfield, giving the Buffalos another opportunity to start up its offensive machine. Minutes later, the visitors scored, and just like that it was 14-0.
“From the very beginning it was run, run, run,” Sachen said. “They ran an offense that we only see from them so our kids were kind of standing up and looking, trying to find the ball. Then they just drove us back because we weren’t firing off low. It was just a lot of little things that stacked up against us.”

The Raiders did get a touchdown in the second quarter, a 65-yard run from Drew Sachen, plus another in the third, a four-yard TD pass from Sachen to Brandon Wall. But overall, the home team had no answer defensively for its run-heavy visitors.

Sachen finished the game with 126-yards rushing on 18 carries and two touchdowns, while Wall had a receiving TD. Imac, 1-1, will travel to Jayhawk-Linn Friday for a 7 p.m. contest.
“We have to block a little better,” the Immaculata coach said. “We have to sustain those blocks better. We had three fumbles and those are just little mistakes that kill you.”
