Blue skies rested above the 2012 Immaculata Invitational on Tuesday.
Six teams competed in the annual competition where the Lady Raiders placed sixth with nine points. Sabetha won the event with 24.
“We had some good results and we had some not-so-good results, but overall we gained a great deal of experience,” Imac coach Manuel Hernandez said.
Of those good results, Imac’s No. 1 singles Olivia Wilson defeated her Ottawa opponent 7-3 before losing to Bishop Seabury 7-6 (7-5) and Sabetha 7-3. She finished fourth.
At No. 2 singles, Sydney Simek won against Ottawa by injury default before beating Seabury 7-3. She lost to Sabetha 7-2, yet still took second.
“Sydney is hitting the ball very well and she continues to be very aggressive in all aspects of her game,” Hernandez said.
In the No. 1 doubles bracket, Liz Lee and Abby Meirose went 0-3 for sixth place, losing 7-0 to Ottawa, 7-1 to Seabury and 7-3 to KC Christian. The No. 2 Imac doubles pairing of Priscilla Hernandez and Elena Nine went 1-2 for fourth place. They lost to Ottawa 7-1, beat Seabury 5-3 (7-0) and lost to Maranatha 7-0.
“I am very pleased with their progress thus far and I know they have much more potential to bring forth,” the Imac coach said.
Immaculata will next compete at the Hiawatha Invite on Sept. 22.
