  • Platinum-selling country artist Clay Walker has joined the entertainment lineup for the Kansas Freedomfest Nov. 10 in Leavenworth, festival organizers announced today.
    Walker, who has six No. 1 country hits among his 11 albums and 30 charted singles over his nearly 20-year career, will headline the two-day festival over Veteran's Day weekend at 10th Avenue Park.
    Walker will be joined by country artist Aaron Tippen and the Marshall Tucker Band as other featured acts at the festival, which is a salute to veterans. With the goal of to increase awareness in military organizations and support services in the community, Kansas FreedomFest will benefit the American Legion, it's programs, and other veterans and local charities.
    The FreedomFest kicks off from 5 to 9 p.m. Nov. 9 and runs from10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, culminating with the feature acts. Local country music entertainers Travis Marvin and The Hammerdown, Lexie Hofer, Last Chance Flight and Chris Webb will also perform.
    Walker made his debut with the single "What's it to You," which reached No. 1 on the Country Billboard charts in 1993. His other No. 1 hits include "Live Until I Die," "Dreaming with My Eyes Open," "If I Could Make A Living," "This Woman and This Man," and "Rumor Has It." His most recent hit, "She Won't Be Lonely Long" is widely played on country stations.
    Tickets for the event costs $20 locally and $30 online, but is free to all U.S. military veterans and active duty military with proof of veteran status.
    Organizers of the event are holding a kickoff event from 4 to 10 tonight at Haymarket Square in downtown Leavenworth featuring Last Chance Flight. High Noon Saloon will also unveil its Kansas FreedomFest Centennial Ale made exclusively for FreedomFest and there will also be a food truck rally along with booths from several local non-profit agencies. Tickets to the FreedomFest will be available for purchase.
