  • The Lansing Historical Museum is once again sponsoring the Autumn in the Grove Scarecrow Contest, which takes place Oct. 13. The contest has three categories:
    School/Day Care Classes, Businesses and Families. Here are the rules:

  • The Lansing Historical Museum is once again sponsoring the Autumn in the Grove Scarecrow Contest, which takes place Oct. 13. The contest has three categories:
    School/Day Care Classes, Businesses and Families. Here are the rules:
    n Groups must pre-register by Oct. 2. To pre-register, send Laura Phillippi your name, category, phone number, and email address to lphillippi@sbcglobal.net or stop by the Museum for a form.
    n The scarecrow must be completed by 9:30 a.m. the day of the event.
    n Entries will be judged on eye appeal, construction, use of materials, and creativity.
    n All entries should be decorated with a good, clean, wholesome nature.
    n Entries should be windproof. Check and maintain your scarecrow during the event.
    n No paint may be applied to any part of the entry.
    n No commercial or political party signs of any kind are allowed.
    n No individual, club, or organization name of any kind should show on the entry. Example: A doctor’s office may not put their name on an entry but they may dress the scarecrow in scrubs.
    n All entries must remain on display for the duration of the event.
    n All entries must arrive by 9 a.m. Oct. 13 at Kelly Grove Park, Kansas Highway 7 and East Gilman Road.
    Prizes will be awarded and festival goers may vote for their favorite scarecrow. The Lansing Historical Museum is located at 115 E. Kansas Ave. For additional information, call Laura Phillippi at 913-250-0203 or email lphillippi@sbcglobal.net.
