Leavenworth girls' tennis rack up victories versus visitors

Nothing is better than some home cooking.
On Thursday, the Leavenworth girls' tennis team was served a big helping of that when it hosted Olathe Northwest. By day's end, several Lady Pioneers recorded wins and though the Lady Ravens took the overall win 8-4, many from the LV squad gained some much-needed confidence according to their coach.
"It was huge for their psyche," Leavenworth coach Shad Langfoss said. "It's really coming across that it's okay to go out and try to fight for a win. To attack the ball and go up to the net instead of staying back and hoping you won't be the first to mess up."
In singles play, Pioneer victories went to No. 4 Jailyn Settles (8-5), No. 5 Anna Salvatorelli (8-2) and No. 6 Megan Kelly (8-6). Leavenworth's No. 1 Meagan Brucker lost 8-1, No. 2 Sydnie Lundy fell 8-2 and No. 3 Christina Dominique was defeated 8-5. No. 7 Maggie McDonald was beat 8-2 and No. 8 Leah Messer lost 8-4.
Dominique and Kelly combined to win the No. 2 doubles match 8-7 (8-6) while the No. 1 pairing of Brucker adn Lundy lost 8-6.
The No. 3 duo of Settles and Salvatorelli was beat 8-5 and McDonald and Messer fell 8-1.
"It was a good team we played and we gained good experience," Langfoss said.
Leavenworth will again host its next meet Monday at 3:30 p.m.
