Wilma J. Allen, 83, Leavenworth, Kan. passed away Saturday, September 22, 2012 in Leavenworth, Kan.
She was born February 12, 1929, the daughter of Paul and Melvena Gilman. On June 7, 1952, she married Eldon E. Allen at the First Christian Church in Leavenworth.
She is survived by her husband Eldon "Gene" Allen of the home, three children, Paul and wife Kimberly Allen of Sedalia , Mo.; Jane and husband Richard Taylor of Stark City, Mo.; Ernest and wife Cheri Allen of Easton, Kan.; grandchildren: Isaac, Hannah, Robert, Gabriel, Abigail, Joshua and Jacob and eight great-grandchildren; her sister Pauline and husband Gary Woodward, Lansing, KS.
Wilma attended High Prairie one room school and graduated from Leavenworth Senior High School in 1946. She went to Phillips University in Enid, Okla., graduating in 1951 with a B.A. degree in elementary education and Bible. She was a dedicated fourth grade teacher, teaching one year in Wichita, Kan. and 24 years at Lansing Elementary School, Lansing, Kan.
Wilma loved all children and was a champion of books and reading. She always wanted to be a teacher. She was a generous, loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, teacher and friend who had a smile for everyone.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at the First Christian Church, 130 N 6th St, Leavenworth, Kan. followed by a Celebration of Life at 6 p.m. Burial will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to First Christian Church, Salvation Army or Lansing Elementary Library.
