There was no change Tuesday in the lockdown status at the U.S. Penitentiary in Leavenworth, a prison spokesman said.
The federal prison has been on lockdown since Saturday afternoon. USP spokesman Thomas Sheldrake said the prison was placed on lockdown as a precautionary measure after there were three fights in one of the housing units and two large groups assembled on the recreation yard.
No staff members were injured. A small number of inmates had minor injuries.
During the lockdown, inmates have remained in their cells.
Sheldrake said officials are investigating the incidents which appear to be have been isolated.
“We never hurry with these things,” he said of ending the lockdown.
He said the bottom line is to make sure staff members and inmates are safe.
The lockdown has affected only the main prison. The neighboring camp has maintained normal operations.
