  • A Leavenworth man was taken to the hospital Tuesday night after he was stabbed several times at an apartment complex, a police spokesman said.
The incident was reported at 8:11 p.m. Tuesday in the 2900 block of Martin Luther King Drive. Police received a report that someone was trying to break into an apartment. But it turned out the person who was thought to be a burglar was the stabbing victim, and he was trying to get help, according to Maj. Dan Nicodemus, deputy chief of the Leavenworth Police Department.
There was an initial report that the 36-year-old man had been shot, but it was determined he had been stabbed. Officers found him bleeding on the porch of an apartment.
“His injuries are considered serious but not considered life-threatening,” Nicodemus said.
The deputy chief didn’t how many times the victim was stabbed but said it was several.
The stabbing apparently happened outside close to the apartment where the victim had sought help.
“We don’t know what the circumstances surrounding the stabbing are,” Nicodemus said.
He said police do not have any suspect information. No weapon was recovered.
Nicodemus said the victim wasn’t very cooperative Tuesday night, but this could have been the result of stress or trauma.
“We’re going to try to talk to him again,” he said.
