Fans encouraged to wear or buy pink apparel for Oct. 19 football game to support efforts in the fight against breast cancer
In conjunction with October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Leavenworth High School Student Council has sponsored several events over the last two weeks to raise funds for the cause.
On Oct. 19, the Pioneer STUCO will be back at when the Leavenworth football team hosts Lawrence Free State. The 7 p.m. contest will be a “Pink Out” game, where fans are encouraged to either wear or purchase pink merchandise that will be on sale.
All proceeds from the evening will go to the Susan G. Komen Foundation and KU Cancer Center to support efforts in the fight against breast cancer.
The following day, Oct. 20, the Second Annual Pioneers Racing for a Cure 5K Run/Mile Walk will be held. The event, which will also donate to the aforementioned charity organizations, will take place at Pioneer Stadium. Check-in is slated to begin at 8 a.m. while the race will start at 8:30 a.m.
