Rosemary Certain Waymire passed away Thursday, October 11, 2012 at 12:10 p.m. after suffering longterm illnesses of Alzheimer's disease and congestive heart failure.
Rosemary Certain Waymire passed away Thursday, October 11, 2012 at 12:10 p.m. after suffering longterm illnesses of Alzheimer's disease and congestive heart failure. She was born in Ottawa, Kan. on July 19,1926, to Clyde and Phyllis Gilmore Certain. Her mother, Phyllis Gilmore Certain, died of cancer when Rosemary was four years of age. She then went to live with her wonderful Aunt Elsie and Uncle John Dellinger and was raised in Ottawa, Kan. She graduated from Ottawa High School in 1944. She then moved to Pasadena, Calif. where she attended Pasadena Junior College and was a bookkeeper at Uptown Chevrolet. She enjoyed working on Rosebowl Floats in Rosebowl Parades. On September 2, 1945, she married her high school sweetheart, Lieutenant Olin (J R) Waymire, prior to his shipping overseas. After World War II they lived in Lawrence while J R attended K.U. In two years they moved to Arkansas City, Kan. where she was a bookkeeper and J R was a store manager. In 1952 they had moved to Lawrence again and were blessed with the birth of a daughter, Nanci Lyn. Their son, John Edward, was born 1953. Followed by the birth of her third child, Ronald Alan, in 1956.
While in Lawrence raising the children she worked with the PTA and Cub Scouts. When the children were teenagers she worked for jobs she really enjoyed Lawrence Credit Bureau and Phelps Finance Company. They enjoyed living in Lawrence for 19 years.
In 1971 they opened a new grocery store as partners in Leavenworth and acquired five stores over 29 years of business. She was raised in the First Baptist Church but become a lifetime member of J R's affiliation the First Christian Church. She became very active in ABWA, Eastern Star, True Kindred, and Beauceants. She also served on the board of Northeast Kansas Mental Heath and Guidance.
The family that preceded her in death were her mother, Phyllis Gilmore Certain, father, Clyde M. Certain, brother, Kenneth Certain, and brother, Jack Certain. Her son, Ronald Alan Waymire, preceded her in death 1979.
She is lovingly missed by her remaining family; her husband J R for 67 wonderful years of the home, son John Waymire, daughter Nanci Lyn Clark, grandson & wife Matt and Jessica Waymire, their daughters Jocelyn and Darcy Rose, of Lansing, Kan., and granddaughter & husband Ashley and Josh Whitsel, and their daughters Elizabeth and Priscilla, and son Josh all living in Morehead City, N.C., two brother-in-laws, Don and Norma Waymire, Chuck and Zondra Waymire and a sister-in-law Shirley and Bill Gloy. She also had many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at Davis Funeral Chapel, Sunday, October 14th from 5 to 7 p.m. The funeral will be at the First Christian Church on Monday, October 15th at 2 p.m. with Christian burial at Mount Muncie Cemetery immediately following the service.
