    Nell Franklin Briggs, 66, of Lansing, died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012. She was born Dec. 23, 1945, in Leavenworth the daughter of Robert H. and Laura E. (Allee) Hinz.
    She was married to William O. Broeker from Feb. 19, 1965 to May 1976. She was then married to Donald TenEyck Briggs until Oct. 2000. She is survived by her children, Anna Buffo and William (Ann) Broeker, Jr. both of Leavenworth; step-children, Anne (Briggs) Hattok of Leavenworth and Donald T. Briggs Jr., of Lexington, Mass.; grandchildren, Cole and Logan Buffo and Layne and Chase Broeker; and step-grandchildren, Abby, Scott and Lindsay Hattok, and Thomas, Carly and Michael Briggs.
    Nell was very active in her community serving with many organizations; Santa Fe Trail Council of Girl Scouts, Cushing Hospital Auxiliary, Parent organizations at Third Avenue, Nettie Hartnett and Howard Wilson Schools. She was also involved with Parent Curriculum Group, Military Dependents Scholarship Fund, Leavenworth Performing Arts Council, Cub Scout Den Mother, Candy Striper Coordinator at Cushing and was a West Junior High School teacher's aide volunteer.
    From 1982 to 1995, she was co-owner of Leavenworth Paper Supply and continued to work there until 2008.
    She was a member of DAR, Whittier Club, PEO, Rotary Club, First Methodist Church, First Presbyterian Church, vice-president and then president of the Woman's Division of the Chamber of Commerce and later served on the executive board. She was a Charter member of the National Association of Women in Chamber of Commerce. Nell was the president of the Leavenworth Country Club Women's Golf Association, she served on the Salvation Army Advisory Board, was a member of the Heart of America Paper Association where she served on the board of directors and was a Women's associate of St. Mary College.
    Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15, 2012, at the R. L. Leintz Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials in lieu of flowers are suggested to Hospice Partners of Kansas (419 Shawnee St. Leavenworth, KS.)
