Lansing’s Nashia Baker, Ridge’s Tony Weber get all-state nods

With the conclusion of its cross country season last week in Lawrence, over the weekend local runners hauled in their final accolades of 2012 .
For Lansing, Nashia Baker added to her All-Regional and All-Kaw Valley League awards when she was given All-5A state honors as well. She placed fifth individually at the girls’ Class 5A state meet.
“She had a great offseason and summer coming into the season,” Lansing coach Brian Malm said. “Her and her sister really worked all year in their condition and strength programs and you could tell. Their dedication and commitment is what set them apart.”
The other area runner gaining all-state acclaim was Pleasant Ridge’s Tony Weber after he placed eighth individually in the boys’ Class 3A state race. He was also an All-Regional and All-Delaware Valley League recipient.
“It was really nice to see him run so well,” PR coach Chad Hendrix said. “He worked so hard to improve upon his finish last year and earned everything he has been awarded.”
While Leavenworth’s squad did not receive any state acknowledgments, Lady Pioneers Madison Schoen, Taryn Schoen and Briana Bressman collected All-Regional honors.
Other Lady Lion honorees included Malika Baker, Caitlin LaNeve and Jordan Maestas garnishing All-Regional and All-KVL accolades. Lansing’s Chris Brown and Joe Walter also gained All-Regional and All-KVL awards.
For Pleasant Ridge, Rachel Hattok, Hailey Worthington and Kristina Silvers were given All-Regional and All-DVL accolades.
