The University of Saint Mary cross country teams competed in the 2012 Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Cross Country Championship on Saturday, where two Spires qualified for this year’s national meet.
Caeser Castillo, who finished third individually, and Brooks Ballou, who came in sixth, will represent USM at the 2012 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics National Championship Meet.
At the KCAC championships, the rest of the Saint Mary men’s squad combined together to finish second overall.
The USM women’s team came in eighth overall.
Besides Castillo and Ballou, Cameron Avilez placed eighth, Russel Brown 18th and Ricardo Cortez 25th.
The remaining Spires results included Izzy Parra (48th), Aaron Potter (53rd) and Omar Delgado (65th). Nick Haines was disqualified.
Castillo, Ballou and Avilez were named to the All-KCAC team following the race.
The Saint Mary women’s squad was led by Karoline Banasik, who came in 17th place, and Samantha Winter, who earned 31st. Sara Dominiguez won 38th and Addieson Rhea took 39th. Carolyn Ellis placed 50th while Angelia Meyer took in 67th place overall.
