Leavenworth County voters have selected their new treasurer.
Republican Janice Dickson defeated Democrat Thomas Koch Tuesday in the race for Leavenworth County treasurer.
Dickson received 17,606 votes, or 64.5 percent of the votes from across the county. Koch received 9,664 votes, or 35.5 percent.
Dickson, who currently works as the deputy county clerk, will replace Janice Young, who didn't seek re-election as the county treasurer.
"I'm excited," Dickson said Tuesday night. "I'm grateful."
While candidates who won other races Tuesday will take office in January, Dickson won't become treasurer until October, which she said will coincide with the beginning of the tax year.
"There's an advantage with that," she said.
She said this gives her more time to work with the current treasurer to get up to speed.
Also winning elections Tuesday were County Clerk Janet Klasinski, a Republican, and Register of Deeds Stacy Driscoll, a Democrat. The incumbents ran un-opposed and were easily re-elected.
