  • Authorities are looking for a man who attempted to rob a Leavenworth convenience store at gunpoint Wednesday morning. The robber apparently got scared and ending up fleeing the store without any money, a police spokesman said.
The incident was reported at 6:15 a.m. Wednesday at the BP store at Fourth and Miami streets.
The suspect entered the store, brandished a handgun and demanded money. There were two employees in the store at the time, according to Maj. Dan Nicodemus, deputy chief of the Leavenworth Police Department.
“Before the clerks could comply, the suspect got nervous and ran out,” Nicodemus said.
The man ran north and then headed east.
“We haven’t been able to locate the suspect,” Nicodemus said.
The suspect was described as a young black man who wore a black trench coat, black and white plaid pajama pants and white shoes with black soles. He also wore dark-colored gloves.
Nicodemus said anyone with information about the suspect can contact the Police Department’s clue hotline at 682-CLUE, or 682-2583, and remain anonymous.
