The University of Saint Mary basketball teams double-dipped into the win column Tuesday.
Both squads traveled to Oklahoma to face the Hillsdale Free Will Baptist College Saints, where each USM team earned a victory.
First, the Lady Spires improved its record to 2-1 on the year with a 64-50 win.
“We guarded pretty well at times, but then we didn’t adjust as well to the officiating as we should have,” USM women’s head coach Mike Basler said. “We held them to just three field goals in the first half, but they converted more than 10 free throws, so it was a good effort with a few things to work on.”
The Saint Mary men also pushed its overall mark to 2-1 with a 86-55 victory.
“We got out to a really good start,” Saint Mary men’s head coach Jon Bishop said. “I felt it allowed us to set the tone defensively, which opened up things for us on the offensive end. The thing I was most pleased with was our effort defensively. We guarded and rebounded really well.”
On Friday, the Saint Mary squad wills be back in action, yet in different locations. The men will travel to Ottawa to face Baker at 12:30 p.m. while the women host its home opener, a 6 p.m. clash against Central Christian.
