  • While Google Fiber is being implemented in Kansas City, Kan., and Kansas City, Mo., company officials aren’t saying when it might expand into Leavenworth County.
“We aren’t there yet in terms of our strategy,” said Rachel Hack, Google community manager for the Kansas City area.
Hack spoke Friday to the Fort Leavenworth Community Relations Group about Google Fiber, which is said to provide an internet connection that is 100 times faster than the average internet service.
Kansas City, Kan., was selected for the launch of Google Fiber with Kansas City, Mo., also being added as a launch city. Google Fiber, which also can be used for paid television service, launched earlier this year.
Hack said Google is focused on Kansas City, Kan., and Kansas City, Mo., right now. But the company has heard from mayors in other cities in the metropolitan area who’ve indicated they’re ready to talk when Google is.
She said three communities in northeast Johnson County have been included as areas that will receive Google Fiber service. She said this signaled the company is interested in expansion.
She said expanding to other communities requires separate agreements, and Google would have to work with the companies that control the utility poles.
