  • With things such as deployments and multiple moves, everyone in an Army family has an “I hate the Army day,” according to Tara Crooks.
“All of that stuff is hard,” said Crooks, co-founder of Army Wife Network.
But Crooks and fellow Army Wife Network Co-Founder Star Henderson offered military families at Fort Leavenworth a chance to take a moment to network with each other and reflect on reasons to love military life.
Crooks and Henderson hosted a program called Field Exercise: Love Military Life Thursday and Friday at the fort.
The seminar, which has been offered at other installations, is based on the book “1001 Things to Love About Military Life.” The book was co-authored by Crooks and Henderson along with Kathie Hightower and Holly Scherer.
Crooks said she wanted people who attended the event to feel it’s OK if they become frustrated and know there are others like them. She also wanted them to see what resources are available and know there are things to love about military life.
“I want them to feel appreciated too,” she said.
The four-hour seminar was offered twice at Fort Leavenworth free of charge. It was presented Thursday evening and again Friday during the daytime hours. Child care was offered during the event, and a meal was provided during each seminar.
About 130 people attended Thursday’s seminar. At least 80 were expected to be at Friday’s event.
Henderson called it a “fun, laid back relaxing event.”
“We’re military spouses talking to military spouses,” she said.
