Allie Packard-Reno Bobwhites 4-H Club, Abraham Buddish-Friendship Valley 4-H Club and Kelsi Briggs-Happy Helpers 4-H Club have been selected to receive a 2012 4-H Key Award.

"A one-of-a-kind award, the Kansas 4-H Key award is given to 4-H members that have provided leadership and citizenship within their communities for the past three years," states Pamela Van Horn coordinator of the state 4-H awards program.

Recipients are selected through an application process. To be considered for the award, a 4-H member must be at least 16 years old, have been a 4-H member for four or more years, enrolled in the 4-H

Leadership Project for four or more years and clearly have demonstrated leadership, citizenship and concern for others in the 4-H programs and in their community. The award has been given annually since 1952.

According to Van Horn, "The goal of the 4-H Key Award is to encourage members to develop a concern for their community and explore opportunities to provide service to others by asserting their leadership skills." These opportunities can lay a foundation for a lifetime commitment of citizenship and service to build and improve home communities and the larger world.

The award is underwritten by the Farm Credit Associations of Kansas and the Kansas 4-H Foundation.

The three members will received their award at the Leavenworth County Achievement Night Celebration on Nov. 10 in the Administration Building at the Leavenworth County Fairgrounds.

Supported by county, state, federal and private funds, the program has county Extension offices, experiment fields, area Extension offices and regional research centers statewide. Its headquarters is on the K State campus, Manhattan.
