To the editor:
In the past couple months there have been a lot of letters and opinions expressed over candidates, especially here on the local level. I would like to take this time to put all animosity we may have had behind us and congratulate the winners.
Congratulations to: Congress woman Lynn Jenkins, U.S. House District 2 (R) – She has done a fine job here in Kansas and we can expect the same from her next term.
Steve Fitzgerald, State Senator District 5 (R) – Mr. Fitzgerald never gave up on his bid for the senate seat. We can all rest assured he will not give up on representing us citizens. He is a very good man with great morals. We, here in Leavenworth, will be very proud of the job he will do representing our district.
Senator Tom Holland, State Senator District 3 (D) – Mr. Holland won his re-election bid and will continue his hard work in his district. Of that we have no doubt.
Willie Dove, House District 38 (R) – Mr. Dove is a very good and God-fearing man. He has a great heart and will represent his district well.
John Bradford, House District 40 (R) – Lansing now has a solid conservative to look up to, in Mr. Bradford. He is a good man who will stand up for our constitutional rights and our freedoms. Lansing should be proud.
Rep. Melanie Meier, House District 41 (D) – Rep. Goodman and Rep. Meier had a great race. It was very unfortunate that only one could win. Rep. Meier will continue her fight for our veterans, our military as well as a host of other issues in our area.
Rep. Connie O'Brien, House District 42 (R) – Rep. O'Brien has done an outstanding job representing her constituents. She has stood up for them in Topeka and will continue to do so.
There's a NEW Sheriff in town and is name is Andy Dedeke (R). We citizens are very lucky to have a man like Mr. Dedeke in this position. Sheriff Dedeke is very much in tune with the job, the citizens and our rights. A very solid man for our county.
County Attorney, Todd Thompson (R) – Mr. Thompson has done a great job the years he has been in this office. Crime rates have been dropping and prosecutions have been on the rise. A fair and honest man for the job and the citizens.
County treasurer, Janice Dickson (R) – No surprise here, people. JaniceDickson has done a fantastic job and we can all expect her to continue her great work.
County commissioner District 2, Clyde Graeber (R) – Again, no surprise. Commissioner Graeber has done a fantastic job for quite some time now. We can expect he will continue his good work.
Page 2 of 2 - County commissioner District 3, Dennis Bixby (R) – District 3, you have a very good, down-to-earth man in your commissioners seat. Mr. Bixby will serve the people well. He is too honest of a man to give you anything less than his best. Mr. Bixby is a people person who has you, the citizens, in his mind and heart.
Lansing has a new mayor in Mr. Blackwell. I'm not sure how long it will take the citizens of Lansing to get used to the fact that Mr. Ken Bernard is no longer their fearless leader. However, I'm sure Mr. Blackwell will do such a fine job, that he'll be out from underneath that shadow in no time.
I would like to add, to those who were not victorious, this time. Your job is not done. There are many ways to help our towns, counties and state. Your experiences, your drive and your knowledge can be an asset to us all. Remember: Never stop fighting the good fight.
Thank you to all those who ran for office and who got out and voted.
A quick reminder to our fellow citizens. We do have another election right around the corner. Please stay informed and supportive.
