The bomb squad was called Friday morning to investigate a suspicious package at a Leavenworth home. The package turned out to a confetti dispenser that uses compressed air, a police spokesman said.
The incident was reported at 9:33 a.m. Friday in the 200 block of Leavenworth Avenue. Maj. Dan Nicodemus, deputy chief of the Leavenworth Police Department, said a suspicious package was discovered on the porch of a residence. The package was discovered by the homeowner.
“It appeared to be an explosive device,” Nicodemus said.
He said the area was cordoned off, and houses in the area were evacuated.
The Leavenworth Bomb Squad, which is made up of members of the Leavenworth Police Department and Sheriff’s Office, responded.
Nicodemus said the bomb squad used a robot to inspect the package.
“They had to manipulate it,” Nicodemus said.
He said authorities didn’t know it was confetti until they broke open the device.
The deputy chief said officers checked the area for other suspicious items but didn’t find anything.
He said police were at the scene until 12:50 p.m. Friday.
It’s not clear why the device had been placed on the porch.
