  • Though an 0-5 start wasn’t the most impressive way to begin 2012, the Lansing football team showed improvement towards the end of the campaign, proved by a three-game winning streak.
That late push allowed the Lions to not only earn a postseason playoff birth, but also solidify their spots on the Kaw Valley League honor lists.
Over the weekend, those conference distinctions were released and 12 Lansing players received accolades.
“It’s hard to get on those lists in the first place,” Lansing coach Bill Pekarek said. “I thought for as many guys as we got on there it was really good see. Those guys deserve every thing they got.”
Offensively, lineman Chase Taylor, wide receiver Khalil Bailey and running back Lucas Mein all received second-team nods. Tight end Thad Marshall, lineman Drew Goebel and wide receiver Jordan Sommerla were given honorable mention.
Defensively, linebacker Hector Porter was tabbed for the All-KVL second team. Lineman Taylor, defensive back Mein, linebacker Tyler Ayres and defensive back Xavier Chestand were awarded honorable mention.
Brad Brown was a honorable mention selection for both place kicker and punter. Lansing finished the season 3-7, 1-6 in league action.
