Last year’s record: 2-2 dual record
    Coach: Ron Averill
    Coach’s record: 265-78-1

Michael Olsen, 132/138-pound junior; placed first at state in 2012 (37-6), second in 2011 (32-14)
Cole Hoing, 126-pound junior; went 32-14 in 2012
    Hector Porter, 195/220-pound junior
    Newcomers to watch:
Elijah Hill, 120-pound freshman; second at Middle School National Duals Tournament
    Jordan Girard, 106-pound sophomore
Team Outlook: STRENGTHS — Seasoned talent is a key ingredient for any wrestling squad and for Lansing, junior Michael Olsen headlines a deep junior class.
The returning state champion, along with several other members of his grade, will be looked to lead a developing Lions team.
“I think that our strength as a team comes from the knowledge and desire to improve on last year’s performances,” Averill said. “We have a lot of kids out for wrestling and every single one is working their tail off to not only to earn a varsity spot, but to have a successful season.”

WEAKNESSES —  While the team’s youthful hunger is important, Lansing still lost a lot of varsity experience to graduation from last season’s team.
In the long run, though, the Lions’ coach staff believes the lack of mat time will dissipate as the team matures.
Big meets: Eudora Tournament on Dec. 8-9; Basehor’s Bobcat Tournament on Jan. 11-12
Coach says: “We have begun our season with an excited sense of anticipation. I know that we are going to have a lot of good battles within the practice room, which will transfer into competition.”
