Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Let’s move right into this week’s musings.
Last Friday was a very sad time in my life as Applebee’s adult coed kickball came to an end. Now, what will I do on Friday nights?
I did get to crown Racks and Sacks (Neil Seichepine) as the 2012 Applebee’s adult coed kickball champions though. Ball Busters (April Norberto) and Citizens Savings and Loan (Danielle Heuer) tied for second place. Kickalob Ultra (Kim Rhoades Todd) finished a close fourth.
I hope all of the players had as much fun participating as I enjoyed watching.
I want to thank Sean and Karolyn McEwen for joining our league as a relief from their studies this year at the fort. Also, Kevin Gitkos, who actually plays on a traveling kickball team, brought strategy to our league and raised the level of play.
Heading into the holiday this week the Drillers continue to lead the adult women’s volleyball league. On Monday though, Six Pack pushed the Drillers harder than anyone has been able to do this year.
The Boom defeated the Dominators, forcing a tie for second in the league.
Just a reminder that registration for Bitty Basketball, girls and boys ages 3-5, remains open.
Registration will end Dec. 14 and absolutely no late registration will be taken for this program.
A few weeks ago, I announced that the Leavenworth High School girls basketball coaching staff will conduct this program for the children — how great is that? This is a fantastic opportunity for the young children in our community to begin developing proper skills and techniques at a very young age.
The clinic will be held on Saturday mornings in the Riverfront Community Center gymnasium over four weeks beginning Jan. 12.
Our coaches meeting for youth basketball grades first through sixth will be on Thursday.
At that time the coaches will receive the team rosters, basketballs, league rules, and they will sign-up for their practice time. Practice will begin the week of Dec. 3 while games start Jan. 12.
I have extended the registration for adult men’s basketball until Dec. 11 as I continue to receive phone calls from individuals wanting to register teams. We are up to eight teams at this moment.
The adult women’s volleyball winter league registration is continuing. We had five teams in the league during the fall and we are hoping to see it grow.
n On Dec. 4 and Dec. 11 I want to encourage everyone to visit and dine at the Lansing IHOP.
On those two days, the ownership of the local IHOP is donating a percentage of the proceeds to the Leavenworth and Lansing Parks and Recreation Department.
Please get out on those days to assist IHOP in supporting our children.
