  • A van that was found overturned in Kansas City, Kan., led to the discovery of a burglary Thursday in Leavenworth, a police spokesman said.
Maj. Dan Nicodemus, deputy chief of the Leavenworth Police Department, said Kansas City, Kan., authorities notified Leavenworth police that they were investigating a rollover accident. The occupants of the wrecked van apparently had fled the scene. The registered owner of the vehicle lives in Leavenworth.
The Leavenworth Police Department received the call shortly after 10 a.m. Thursday. Officers went to a residence in the 1400 block of Columbia Avenue to contact the vehicle’s owner. They learned the house had been burglarized and the van was stolen.
The people who live at the residence were out of town.
Nicodemus said it appears the culprit or culprits took more than just the van during the burglary.
“There was some property left in the van when they wrecked it,” he said.
