Name: Jon Bishop
Coaching position: Head men’s basketball coach at the University of Saint Mary
Years as coach: fifth year as head coach

Why did you get into coaching? I loved the sport and coaching was a way to stay involved with it right out of college.

What are your best memories of coaching so far? Last season at the University of Saint Mary was very memorable to me as we set the school record for most wins in a season going 25-6 and qualifying for the 2012 NAIA National Tournament.
Other memories that stand out are just the longtime relationships that the coaching profession allows us to have with our players.
Seeing kids grow up and become successful in life is the most satisfying feeling coaching gives me.

What advice do you have for future coaches? Be patient and understand that it takes years to get where you eventually want to be in this business.
Every young coach wants that instant satisfaction, but just a given few are willing to work their way up and earn it.
Those that are willing to do that are the ones that will eventually be successful in the coaching business.
