Rita Sundet, 89 of Leavenworth, passed away Thursday, November 29th, 2012 surrounded by family and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM, Monday, December 3rd, 2012 at Sacred Heart Church, Leavenworth. Visitation will be Sunday, December 2nd, 2012, from 2:00 until 8:00 PM with the family present from 6:00 until 8:00 PM, and a Rosary at 7:00 PM. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Lansing, Kansas.
Rita was born October 23, 1923 at St. John Hospital to Martin and Emma (Bachman) Sinnott. She was educated at Sacred Heart School and Immaculata High School and Leavenworth Business College.
Rita worked in various business jobs in Leavenworth finally pursuing her career with the government service at Fort Leavenworth during World War II where she met her husband of 54 years Lloyd Sundet. They were married at Sacred Heart Church May 11th, 1946 and celebrated their 50th anniversary with a special Mass and reception. He preceded her in death on July 29th, 2000. After her family had grown she returned to government service in the supply division at the VA Center at Wadsworth serving as Chief Inventory Manager. After her retirement in 1985 she worked part time at the Belden Larkin Funeral Home. Rita will always be remembered for her outgoing personality and the countless hours of volunteer work in the church and community. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Altar Society, St.
John Hospital Guild, and the National Association of Federal Employees. Since December 2010 Rita has been a resident of Homestead Assisted Living in
She is survived by her daughter, Connie Graham and her husband Leroy of Leawood, Kansas, her son, Mark and his wife Dee of Kansas City, Missouri, Grandchildren; Gretchen Adamson (Matt), David Graham, Brett Sundet (Audrey), Nicholas Sundet (Kelsey), Matthew Sundet and finance (Danni), great grandchildren; Graham, Ryan and Jack Adamson, and Maddix and Karsen Sundet, one sister; Mary Schlichting of Tuscon, Arizona, many nieces and nephews, and friends.
Memorials in her name may be directed to Sacred Heart Church or Sacred Heart Alter Society.
