To the editor:
The Leavenworth downtown Christmas parade and the lighting of the Mayor's Christmas tree held on Nov. 30 was an embarrassment to our city.
It was the most disorganized event I have ever attended in my life. You could not hear dignitaries speaking, nor the choirs singing because of the lousy PA system that was set up under the canopy of Haymarket Square.
Being a warm evening, people came out in numbers to witness the lighting of the Mayor's Christmas tree. When many discovered the tree consisted of a metal pole with lights draped down to the ground, the crowd diminished before the tree lighting.
I realize that budget is a great concern; and the city made do with what they had. Couldn't someone had asked for a donation for a real Christmas tree? I have one in my front yard I would have gladly donated.
With Leavenworth being the First City, is there some unknown factor as to why we can't provide hospitality in a more fashionable manner?
No wonder downtown Leavenworth is a dying legend.
