  • I have to admit that doing laundry has always been a struggle for me. It is simply a chore that I do not enjoy doing. However, if you want to cut down the cost of how much you spend on clothing, doing laundry is key.
For our family, I can do a load of laundry every single day. I wash my laundry in cold cycle and I only wash if I have a full load. I also try to hang my clothes in the closet immediately after the laundry is completed. By hanging your laundry, you not only cut down on the amount of clothes that have to be ironed, but you also know what you have. This helps me not have the urge to go out and purchase more because I know what I have.
I find that if you do a load of laundry every single day or every other day that the thought of washing the clothes is not as intimidating. By doing your laundry every single day or every other day, you do not have to have a closet full of unnecessary clothes.
Laundry detergent is also an item that is always going on sale. I typically spend no more than $2 on any one detergent. I find that if you have a high efficiency washer, it typically does not matter if you have the higher brand detergents. The machine typically can get out tough stains.
If you want to save even more money, frugal cleaners recommend line drying your clothes. Line drying your clothes in Kansas is sometimes difficult because of the wind. However, other frugal cleaners recommend hanging your laundry across your shower curtain pole in your bathroom to help them air dry.
After completing your laundry, I would recommend that you hang as many items as possible and do not place them in a drawer. I like to hang my laundry in my children's closet by categories. I place them in categories of pants, short and long-sleeved collared shirts, short and non-sleeved non-collared shirts and jackets and coats. As I have stressed several times, organization is a large key to success in saving money.
