To the editor:
At some point in time the Social Security and Medicare trust funds may well face a deficit. However, at this time, neither has contributed one thin dime to our current financial deficit.
In fact it is surplus from these trust funds that has been used to help provide some of the lowest tax rates in decades for high income people. To even suggest reducing Social Security or Medicare entitlements to help resolve our current fiscal crisis, lacking an increase in higher income tax rates is nothing less than political cold-hearted selfish ineptness.
