  • A rural Leavenworth woman has been charged with mistreating a dependent adult.
The defendant, Rebecca Hund, appeared Friday in Leavenworth County District Court. District Judge Gunnar Sundby read the charges to her.
She is charged with one count of mistreatment of a dependent adult. The crime is alleged to have occurred between Nov. 1, 2007, and Dec. 31, 2010.
According to the criminal complaint, Hund is alleged to have taken unfair advantage of at least $25,000 worth of resources of the victim.
She also faces an alternative charge of felony theft.
The case is being prosecuted by the Kansas Attorney General’s Office. Assistant Attorney General John Bryant, who previously served as the deputy county attorney in Leavenworth County, appeared Friday for the Attorney General’s Office.
Hund was not in custody Friday. Court records show she had been sent a summons to appear in court.
Hund requested to have a court-appointed attorney.
Sundby continued the case until Jan. 18 to give Hund time to complete an application for a court-appointed attorney and pay the required fee.
