    1. How did the Cardiac Rehabilitation Clinic get started and how many patients does the clinic have?
Tara Schneider designed the program and admitted the first patients in December of 2002. I know we figured we had seen at least 600 patients in those 10 years. Our patients are referred from local cardiology groups and hospitals in the metro area and come from all over Leavenworth County and the Platte City/Weston, Mo., area.
    2. What kinds of programs are available to patients and what are the hours?
We offer a Phase II program for patients with insurance coverage, a shorter Phase III program for out-of-pocket coverage if no insurance coverage and a Phase IV or Maintenance Program for patients who want to continue after completing Phase II. Some of our Maintenance patients have been with us for 5-6 years. Age range of patients has been from 17 to 95 and everything in between. We offer six class periods each day on M-W-F between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
    3. What kind of medical staff works at the clinic?
Staff includes a registered nurse with cardiac and exercise training, a registered dietician and a registered diabetic educator available for patient education and counseling.
We are also assisted by exercise specialty staff from the PT Department.
We provide various modalities of aerobic and resistance exercise and training, diet and medication education, lifestyle change and smoking cessation.
    4. How do you let people in the community know about the clinic and promote good cardiac health?
Cardiac Rehab staff and patients have been involved in the AHA Heart Walk and Wear Red Day activities to promote heart health and education in the community.
We sponsored and participated in organizing the local chapter of "Womenheart," the National Coalition for Women with Heart Disease here in Leavenworth.
We have given presentations for local organization regarding Heart Health Issues including Rotary, Sertoma, Women's Divison of the Chamber.
