Authorities have received a couple of reports of counterfeit money turning up in Leavenworth, a police spokesman said.
Within about the last week, money believed to be counterfeit has been reported at two local businesses, Family Video and the BP station on North Fourth Street, according to Maj. Dan Nicodemus, deputy chief of the Leavenworth Police Department.
In counterfeit money cases, police share their reports with federal authorities, Nicodemus said.
He urged retailers to be vigilant. He said counterfeiters don’t focus only on $100 bills. He said $50 and $20 bills also are counterfeited.
