  • The victim of Wednesday’s stabbing in Leavenworth remains in the hospital. And authorities are still looking for the suspect, a police spokesman said.
“We would still like to talk to him and get his version of the story,” Leavenworth Deputy Police Chief Dan Nicodemus said of the suspect.
Police learned of the stabbing around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday after the 36-year-old victim went to Cushing Memorial Hospital. The Leavenworth man told police he’d been stabbed during an altercation with another man at a residence in the 700 block of Pottawatomie Street.
Police have not released many details about the circumstances of the altercation. Nicodemus said he didn’t want to provide too much information before investigators have a chance to speak with the suspect.
Nicodemus said the victim, who later was transported to another hospital, was stabbed several times. The deputy chief said the man’s condition was stable Thursday.
“And we’ve been talking with him,” Nicodemus said.
The stabbing took place at the residence of a friend of the victim and suspect. Police processed the scene Wednesday. Nicodemus said officers did not recover the knife used in the stabbing.
