To the editor:
For anyone stressed-out about holiday travel, there is some good news. Vegetarian diets can lower anxiety and stress, according to a recent study in Nutrition Journal.
As a registered dietitian who travels a lot, I know from my own experience that healthful food can improve mood. Next time I pack my carry-on, I'll include tasty, healthful snacks such as fresh berries, sliced pears, and spiced pumpkin bread sweetened with maple syrup.
And when I arrive, I'll enjoy healthful versions of the Southern foods my family loves. Cornbread and collard greens are just as tasty without the bacon. So pass the white bean and winter vegetable stew and relax.
