  • Gisela Charlotte Counts, nee Kowalski, passed away Dec 15, 2012 at Kansas City Hospice House.
    Gisela was born Oct 20, 1927 to Rudolf Herman August Kowalski and Charlotte Anna Hedwig Kowalski, nee Meyer in Koenigslutter, now Koenigslutter on Elm, Germany. She attended local village school until as a good student she was selected for further education where she studied English and eventually worked for the American authorities, later working for an American bank in Berlin, Germany. In 1959 she married Sgt Barney Attrius Counts in Helmstedt. They had one child, a son Perry Robert. Gisela and son Perry became naturalized American citizens in 1963. Gisela worked for many years both in Germany and the U.S. for the Army/Air Force Exchange System, retiring as Human Resources Manager.
    Gisela was a wonderful cook and took pleasure in treating friends to gourmet meals including gourmet tailgating as a longtime Chiefs fan.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Barney and son Perry. She is survived by siblings, brother Horst Kowalski and spouse Irmgard of Stuttgart, Germany, sister Eva Kowalski of Dusseldorf, Germany, and brother Peter Kowalski of Hamburg, Germany.
    A graveside service and internment will be held at the Fort Leavenworth Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, January 4, 2013. Friends wishing to attend may gather at Davis Funeral Chapel at 12:45 p.m.
