Two Lansing men were taken to the hospital following a crash Thursday morning on Kansas 5 Highway, according to a report from the Leavenworth County Sheriff’s Office.
The accident was reported at 7:19 a.m. Thursday at K-5 and McPherson Road.
Robert B. Montenegro, 36, was driving south in a 2002 Toyota Camry. He reportedly reached down to grab something and the car crossed into the opposite lane. The car struck a northbound 2009 Volkswagen Tiguan on a corner of the passenger side.
The Toyota then went into a ditch and struck a utility pole, according to the report.
Montenegro and his passenger, Wilberto A. Esparra, 24, were transported by Leavenworth County EMS to the University of Kansas Hospital, Kansas City, Kan.
The other driver, Aron N. Anirudh, 36, Overland Park, was not injured, according to the report.
Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
