  • To the editor:
I recently became aware of the very disturbing case of Summer Snell, a 6-year old at Mclouth Elementary School who was alledgedly attacked by a 16-year-old on school grounds.
From what I have read, with the information that was given, it seems to me there was a complete lack of justice in this case. As a former Kansas Law Enforcement officer for 10 years, it just doens't seem as though everything was done to have an outcome for this case.
While I know that I do not have the ability to help her, I want the laws changed to protect my children and the other children in Kansas from something like this happening. I want the Kansas Attorney General to have the power to oversee cases involving minors and the ability for the Kansas Bureau of Investigation to investigate these crimes regardless of the county's attorney's approval or request.
I implore you to visit www.justiceforsummer.com and read this family's horrifying ordeal and I ask you to support the passage of Summer's Law when it is brought before you.
It is my understanding from the website that Summer's father, Terry Snell, is working with legislators to draft a proposal and I ask my elected officials to do whatever is in your power to get this passed.
