  • A Leavenworth man told authorities he was hit with a wooden club Tuesday during an altercation with another man, a police spokesman said.
The incident was reported at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday at the victim’s residence in the 700 block of Cherokee Street.
Police were called to that location for a report of a fight with weapons. The 55-year-old victim told officers he was attacked by a 52-year-old Leavenworth man, according to Maj. Dan Nicodemus, deputy chief of the Leavenworth Police Department.
“(The victim) said the suspect charged at him with a wooden club and hit him several times with it,” Nicodemus said.
The victim suffered minor injuries and refused medical attention.
The deputy chief said the altercation reportedly had been the result of a “dispute over a girl.”
The suspect also is alleged to have struck a second victim, a 67-year-old man who was a guest at the residence, with his fist during the altercation.
The suspect was at the scene when police arrived. Nicodemus said the suspect’s account of what happened was different from the one provided by the victim.
Nicodemus said the suspect did not have a wooden club when police arrived but one was located at the residence.
No arrests were made. Nicodemus said a report about the case will be forwarded to a prosecutor for review.
