  • Team: Leavenworth High Bowling
Last year’s top finishes: Mallory Scherer placed 12th at the 2012 Sunflower League meet
    Coach: Shad Langfoss
    Key returnees:
    Jeremy Crowder, sophomore
    Levi Denney, senior
    Jessica Johnson, senior
    Mallory Scherer, senior
    Newcomers to watch:
    Chris Imbrogno, junior
    Matt Marengo, junior
    Nick Warf, junior
    Sabrina Sigmon, freshman
Team Outlook: Strengths — Senior leadership will be a point of strength, especially on the girls’ squad, for the Leavenworth bowling team in 2013.
Because of that experience, Langfoss feels his teams should be “mentally tougher than previous years,” specifically when the Pioneers compete in big matches such as its league and regional meets.
Weaknesses — Overall depth could hurt the Leavenworth squads this season.
Numbers are not as high as previous years, example being that the girls’ team won’t be able to fill out a complete junior varsity unit.
That lack of personnel will cause problems for the Pioneers chances at winning dual meets according to Langfoss.
Big meets: Jan. 23 Baker meet at Shawnee Mission Northwest; Feb. 14 Sunflower League meet at Lawrence
Coach says: “I have seen many bowlers throughout the halls and they are very excited to get the season underway. Just as long as the bowlers have a strong work ethic on the lanes and in the classroom, I have a good feeling we should see some wins this year with the girls and boys teams.”
